"A widescreen, HD film performance of the landscapes and animal life of Arctica and Antarctica- marrying music to unforgettable and never-seen-before footage of polar bears, penguins, beluga whales, and with truly symphonic power matching the colossal scale of these icy, remote landscapes, Polar is an ode to these mysterious and monumental regions of the world."

Reviews

“Harle’s own music was filled with majesty and awe to the snowy landscapes, making the most of the Philharmonic Orchestra’s power and subtlety”.
Liverpool Post

“And for the most part it was precision timing in a programme carefully constructed by Harle, who has also composed a series of very attractive, melodic and majestic pieces to act as prologue and epilogue and a quartet of short sequences charting the moon’s path across Arctic skies”.
Liverpool Echo

“The marriage of footage of the Aurora Borealis and the Phil shimmering beneath in another excerpt from Rautavaara was nothing less than hypnotic, and a beautifully realised finale from Sibelius’s Symphony No 5 accompanied swooping aerial shots of lofty peaks, fissured glaciers and sculpted icebergs”.
Liverpool Echo

“Polar is a unique concert experience during which breathtaking footage of the Arctic and Antarctic is accompanied by carefully chosen orchestral pieces, each handpicked by conductor John Harle who took the helm guiding the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra through each exquisite movement”.
